About Me

I am Bhargava, a Graduate Student with Department Of Computer Science, University of Georgia. I joined UGA in Spring 2007. Before coming to UGA, I worked as Software Associate with Kanbay Software Pvt. Ltd. which is now a part of CapGemini Software Consulting.

My hobbies include watching movies, learning ASP.NET Development. I do maintain a blog, which is updated once every full moon, at http://krishnabhargav.blogspot.com. I follow Microsoft closely and I wish to make a career on Microsoft technologies. My professional experience include a 6-month sting as a freelance developer at RentACoder.com, the best website for freelance developers. Here, I worked on numerous, the then latest API which includes Core Java Development, Servlets, ASP.NET Content Management System, Remoting Based Error Reporting tool, Task Scheduler and many more projects. On the whole, I have undertaken over 45 various jobs and decided to quit at a time when I had plenty of work at hand and no time to spend with my loved ones. My cooking skills are more than adequate and I love to cook Chicken Dishes and few other interesting cuisines.

Fall 2007 at UGA

The fall semester was one of the most hectic semesters I ever had in my student life. Four courses, two TA assignments took a lot of my time. Parallel and Distributed Simulation under Dr. Maria was totally fun but required a lot of homework. Advanced Networks under Dr.Kang was a different learning experience. We had a fake class conference which gave us an idea about how conference works. We also participated in iCTF(International Capture The Flag) competition and we did farely well. Algorithms under Dr. Shelby was again hectic like any other core course. I would love an algorithm course that requires real coding and then our analysis should practically be applied to these codes. But this was a theoretical course but was very much essential for any Computer Science Graduate. GRSC 7770 was kind of ok-fun, but annoyyed me at times. I had been primary TA for CSCI 1100 Lab and for Database Systems.

I recently discovered that we students at UGA can take free BrainBench certification exams and in just one day I could clear three certifications. I hope this would add more value to my resume. To access these test, login to my.uga.edu and click on ElementK. Through ElementK, we can take BrainBench exams.

Summer 2007 at UGA

The summer semester was pretty good. I got a decent start on my Thesis work under Dr. Kang Li. I think we made a reasonable progress for a summer term. I hope to work harder during the Fall semester and get a final touch in the next Spring Semester. Coming to the course work, Database Systems under Dr. Miller is a different learning experience altogether. He made us literally write the core of a DBMS and we had some interesting acheivements. We were also made to work on Grails Framework and trust me, its a pretty amazing framework for Java/Groovy. I made a few posts on Groovy Programming on my blog.

I was a TA for the CSCI 1730 taught by Dr. Eileen Kreamer. She is one of the most amazing professors I ever met all my student life. By the way, she gave me the opportunity to take a class on C++ Templates which I did enjoy a lot (though I bet the students did not enjoy much)

Spring 2007 at UGA

Life during my first semester at UGA have taught me amazing aspects of life, which not only made me stronger but made me more matured. The learning experience has been amazing. I have learnt a lot of different things which include Programming Real-World Image Processing Applications. I have taken the courses like Image Processing offered by Dr. Arabnia, Distributed Systems offered by Dr. Lakshmish Ramaswamy and Computer Networks offered by Dr. Kang Li. I worked as Research Assistant under Dr. Arabnia and Dr. Suchi Bhandarkar and my work dealt with Mean Shift Tracking and Blob Feature Extraction. On the personal front, I learnt a few hard truth which I always escaped from learning. But then at some point of life one should accept the facts of life and move on. I just tried to do that, though not successful.

Current Research

I am now working with Dr. Kang Li for my thesis. We intend to develop a Web Script Anomaly Detection System for studying the behavior of spam based scripts. Simply put, we analyze Javascript on a Page for its nature to contribute to SPAM. We will be using GreaseMonkey along with Firefox as our study platform. For more information on GreaseMonkey check out articles column, which will be up very soon.
I also intend to work on Information Security, may be a Ph.D would be amazing to achieve. If you have any good information for a Information Security, Web Security Doctoral Program, please email me on bhargav@uga.edu
