Artificial Intelligence Area of Emphasis

Available starting Fall 2026!

Students pursuing an Area of Emphasis in AI will also earn a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. However, since some courses are not required under this track, the degree will not be accredited by ABET. Please reach out to your academic advisor with any questions about the degree or the requirements below.

Specific Requirements:

Students must complete the following three courses:

CSCI 3360 - Data Science and Applied Machine Learning I
CSCI 4360/6360 - Data Science and Applied Machine Learning II
CSCI(PHIL) 4550/6550 - Artificial Intelligence

Students must complete a minimum of 2 courses from the following:

CSCI 4170/6170 - Introduction to Computational Investing
CSCI 4380/6380 - Data Mining
CSCI(ARTI) 4530/6530 - Introduction to Robotics
CSCI 4560/6560 - Evolutionary Computation and Its Applications
CSCI(ARTI) 4600/6600 - Reinforcement Learning
CSCI 4850/6850 - Biomedical Image Analysis
CSCI 4860/6860 - Computational Neuroscience
CSCI 4900/6900 - Special Topics in Computer Science

*Subject to prior approval. The special topic must be related to artificial intelligence.

Special considerations:

If a student fulfills all of the requirements for the Area of Emphasis in Artificial Intelligence, then the following courses are NOT required, even if they appear elsewhere under major requirements for the major in Computer Science:

CSCI 4720 - Computer Architecture and Organization
CSCI 4050/4370 - Application Design
CSCI 4730/4760 - System Design

The student must still fulfill all other major requirements. Electives for the Area of Emphasis in Artificial Intelligence listed above will count toward the student's 12 hours of major electives.
